Legal Associate

As a Legal Associate, the selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the company’s legal functions across a range of matters. This includes advising internal stakeholders on applicable laws and regulations, particularly those issued by the Reserve Bank of India under the Payment Aggregator/Payment Gateway framework, the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, data privacy and protection laws, employment laws, intellectual property related laws and other relevant financial regulations.

What will you be working on
  • Advising internal stakeholders on applicable laws and regulatory frameworks, especially:
    • RBI guidelines under the Payment Aggregator/Payment Gateway framework
    • Payment and Settlement Systems Act
    • Data privacy and protection laws
    • Employment laws, intellectual property laws, and other relevant financial regulations
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including:
    • Merchant onboarding agreements
    • Vendor agreements
    • Service-Level Agreements (SLAs)
    • Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
    • Technology-related arrangements
  • Independently handling legal negotiations with counterparties to protect the company’s interests
    • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risk
      • Keeping up-to-date with legal and regulatory developments relevant to the fintech and payments space
        Qualifications
        • A 5-year integrated LLB degree from a recognized university is essential
        • 1-3 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in Fintech, banking, or payments sector
        • Law firms or in-house legal teams with exposure to commercial and financial regulatory matters
        • Strong understanding of commercial contracts and financial regulatory laws
        • Excellent drafting and communication skills
        • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, startup environment
        • Detail-oriented, proactive, and solution-focused mindset
